This song was written on a Red Eye flight to Korea with the final lyrics finished in Beijing airport while on a layover waiting for the final connecting flight to South Korea. The terminal I was waiting in was very large, it was the first time I was ever on Chinese soil. I was alone in this large terminal wandering around in the middle of the night, eventually finishing the lyrics to this song Red Eye. As the words describe, I want to see and experience things in person, rather than just behind a screen. As I watched the sunrise over Beijing in the distance, I could see large cranes all over in the skyline. It was something I'd never witnessed before. Something that is not the same unless you see it in person. This was the main idea of Red Eye. I want to travel the world, but not miss a moment of daylight when I can, so I travel the skies at night. This also described the many flights I've taken from LA to NY, always on a Red Eye. This visit to South Korea that landed me in China on the way, was just the start. As for my trip to the DMZ between North and South Korea, that will likely be the topic of a different kind of song in the future.
